Porsche on fire in UK

All exclusive owners of 911 GT3 are being instructed to not to drive their cars until the engine has been replaced

Every auto enthusiast knows Porsche to be one the most desired car ever built. It indeed is on the wish-list of most of people even if they don’t afford it. One of the most heart-stopping models Porsche ever built is the 911 GT3 and only 758 cars are made, many sold, some waiting to be delivered. Last month it faced a major set-back when 2 of GT3 engines caught fire in Europe. If it were any other automaker, they probably would have gone for an engine repair but as for Porsche, they took extreme measure and have recalled all 758 cars to replace complete engine.

This 911 GT3 2014 model is track-spec, powered by a mighty 3.8 litre flat 6 engine with 475 hp. Porsche were pretty sure they would keep a handsome share in the sports car market this year but that unfortunate event of two engine fires, one in Switzerland and the other one in Italy, made them halt their production and sales last month. The initial report says that the fire was caused by damage done to the engine crankcase as there was a loose fastener on the connecting rod. The hot oil leaked on to the hot parts and exhaust, which engulfed the engine in flames.

All the 785 owners are contacted by Porsche and are being instructed to not to drive their cars until the engine has been replaced. These 785 cars include some of those too which have not been delivered yet, it is pretty obvious that replacement engine for Porsche 911 GT3 would cost a fortune. Although this new model of GT3 used the engine based on 911 engines but it was modified to meet the race specifications and give its driver a whole new driving experience. There were many speculations that other 911 models may also face problem after this but 911 is still warming the hearts of many.
