Mercedes-Benz is officially bringing back the Maybach Badge due to be revealed at the Los Angeles Motor Show
Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will revive the Maybach badge, the luxurious upper-class saloon will make its world debut at the upcoming Guangzhou and Los Angeles motor shows in China and the US. It will be badged as the Mercedes-Maybach S600 and will compete against the Bentley Flying Spur and Rolls-Royce Ghost.
It will fill the gap in German car maker’s line-up which was created by the axing of the Maybach 57 and 62 models. What makes it different from the rest of the S-class models is a series of exterior changes, including a reshaped grille and longer rear doors.
The interior features newly designed electrically adjustable back seats which are similar to those used by the earlier Maybach 57 and 62. The Mercedes-Maybach S600 is equipped with a revised twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12AMG engine. The new range-topping saloon forms the basis of much larger S600 Pullman model which will be even longer and have seating for six. It will be revealed in 2015.
The Mercedes-Maybach S600 will be the only version coming to the UK when it goes on sale next spring. Its official prices will be revealed on 18 December, but it is expected that the car will have a premium of around £10,000-£15,000 over the standard Mercedes S600 L, putting the price at around £154,000.
Ola Källenius, executive vice-president of sales and marketing, said: “As with the AMG sub-brand, we have a pricing model on top of the standard S-class. I believe you will be surprised how much vehicle you will get for your money.”
The new ultra luxurious vehicle will also be offered with two other engine variants in other markets. The Mercedes-Maybach S500 will be powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine while the all-wheel-drive S500 4Matic has a V6 engine and is aimed totally at the Chinese market. Would the addition of a Maybach name in the line-up encourage you to buy one?
