Cars can give 141 miles from a single gallon, how much do you get?
Anti-diesel campaigners in the UK are trying to convince people that diesel is less economical and a dirty fuel but the reality is different. Diesel is now getting greener with every passing day and offers utmost fuel economy while keeping the carbon footprints very low. New technologies are helping the automakers to squeeze even the tiniest bit of power from a unit of diesel.
Economy of Diesel Engines
How far your diesel engine can push your car with a gallon? 30 miles, 35 miles, 45 miles or 70 miles?
There is a diesel powered hatchback unveiled by a French automaker that has managed to do 141.2 miles from a gallon of diesel. Impressive! Isn’t it? It is almost three times higher than what most common diesel engines return from a gallon. Usually people consider diesel cars fairly economical if they return anything extra from 30mpg.
Serious Performer of the History
The Peugeot 208 BlueHDi diesel was tested for some serious performance. It covered 100Kms from only 2 litres of diesel. 9.5 gallons of diesel was injected into the 208 BlueHDi and covered 1,337.19 miles or 2,152 kms. It is almost equal to making five round trips of Dublin – Galway with some fuel still left in the tank. You can make five across Ireland trips from a single tank of fuel if you have a Peugeot 208 BlueHDi diesel.
Watch it In Action
An official from Peugeot has said that the next fuel economy busting record will be announced soon but it would be a petrol engine. Technology is advancing with every passing day and it will be very interesting to see when this record will be beaten.
