The Saab 9-3 has Muscular Diesel Engines which give Ageing Saloons a Fresh Lease of Life
The original 9-3 was a gentleman’s car, but new and transformed Saab has given its executive saloon a breadth of fresh air, and the result is an energetic and more striking saloon. It was launched in 2002 and was built on the very famous Vauxhall Vectra platform.
The 9-3 has always tried to match with competitors from the German manufacturers and now that’s a thing of the past as the new Saab boasts super low CO2 emissions.
Saab 9-3 diesel engine
The Saab 9-3 diesel engine has always been a frugal motor, but now with an adding up of new 1.9-litre diesel engines, it has become even more inspiring. They blow their own horn by delivering a fuel economy of 62.8mpg and CO2 emissions of 119g/km for the saloon with unusual horsepower.
These extra controlled CO2 emissions make the saloon road tax free for the first year. The previous 1.9-litre engine has an output of 118bhp and another 1.9 litre gives 148bhp.
Pick of the engine range
The pick of the engine range is Saab 9-3 TTiD4 diesel engine with 178bhp. This engine has a massive twisting power of 400Nm of torque, coming out from only 1850rpm. It’s supple and commanding even if you are driving it in any of its six gears. Add on to that, it’s exceptionally quiet and smooth on the move, feeling as sophisticated as the standard Volkswagen 2.0-litre TDI engines.
These engines are a benchmark as Saab has reduced friction levels in its engines to attain very smooth step up in fuel economy and CO2 emissions. Low rolling resistance tyres have also been introduced with these engines to keep resistance level as low as possible.
