Updates to Mazda6 bring it in line with new Ford Mondeo and VW Passat

Mazda has unveiled an updated Mazda 6 alongside the new CX-3 and updated CX-5 at the LA Motor Show. The changes include a new design, inside and out, more safety equipment and the option of four-wheel drive on top-spec diesel models.

Exterior changes to the Mazda 6 include sharper ‘fins’ in the front bumper, a more three-dimensional look for the front grille and a new LED signature for the taillights. New 19-inch wheels are now available, along with two new body colours, Titanium Flash Mica and Sonic Silver Metallic. The interior has been upgraded too and features a new BMW-style central display that sprouts from the top of the dash.

An electronic handbrake is added to declutter the centre console, a rear-seat heater is available for the first time, and a new head-up display helps the driver keep their eyes on the road. The damper has been tweaked to improve both comfort and handling, revised seats hold the driver and passenger more firmly in place and extra sound-deadening makes it up to 25 percent quieter on the motorway. SKYACTIV-D 2.2 models are now also available with four-wheel drive.

New safety features include adaptive LED headlights, lane-keep assist and a development of Mazda’s auto brake function that can detect car behind you, too.  The revised 6 goes on sale later this year with prices still to be confirmed.
