Mercedes revived Maybach in 2002 but the ultra-luxury brand barely sold 3,000 units till 2012, high prices were one of the major drawback

The sticker price of the Maybach 57 and the W220-gen S-Class was one of the biggest reasons why the luxury car maker Maybach-Manufaktur failed in making huge number of sales while other luxury brands were enjoying good share in the market. In 2013, the sixth generation W222/C217 S-Class was launched at the Los Angeles Auto Show when Mercedes decided to bring it back from the ashes.

The first official change was made to the name as it is now dubbed as Mercedes-Maybach, which has a blend of added lavishness to the basic ultra-luxurious version of S-Class. The 2015 Mercedes-Maybach S500 is almost half the price of 2012 Maybach 57, which clearly shows how determined Mercedes is to get the Maybach to new heights.

The order books for turbo V8 engines S500 and turbo V12 S600 are open now; the deliveries of these luxurious vehicles to Europe will be made in February. Mercedes-Maybach is planning on introducing an entry-level model, V6 S400, sometime next year.

Both of these models will come in rear-wheel drive guise only, but there are some words on a Mercedes-Maybach S500 4Matic which will show up in April. The exact details on what will be offered as standard are still unknown, but one thing is clear that there will be a lot offered in the basic model.
