Subaru is famous for its sport cars and Cosworth for their exceptional engine tuning techniques, what will happen if they join hands
Back in the ‘70s, Cosworth gained quite a recognition for its DFV engine which dominated Formula One, now when they have teased their plans for taking on the FA20 engine which is powering the two of World Rally Championship (WRC) legends – Subaru and Toyota – in their products the Subaru BRZ, Toyota GT86 and Toyota Scion FR-S, giving them a boost that would turn your head around.
Cosworth intends to take the 2.0-litre, four cylinder Subaru boxer engine which currently has 200 horses, and add in 125 making it a sum of 325 horses. In the next stage another 55hp will be added making a total of 380 horses – in the future when gradually track versions Power Packages will be installed.
According to the new strategy, these upgrades will be offered in kits so that the owners can have them fitted as a whole, rather than having individual partial upgrades. The Stage 1 Power Package will include an almost complete stock exhaust system, which will help the FA20 to breathe better. It has a new 22 percent lighter manifold header, an over-pipe front pipe with a spherical resonator and a new sports exhaust system which consists of a four-inch, diagonally cut muffler, shaped like a polished tipped Y.
That’s not all; you will also be having a software reflash, Cosworth badge, low temperature thermostat, and a plaque. Kevin Martin, spokesperson at Cosworth confirmed that “Power Package kit components will not be available separately, as Cosworth cannot guarantee their performance levels in isolation.”
This Stage 1 kit will be yours for just £1,672 which includes a cat-back exhaust, whereas the Stage 1.2 will have an over-pipe and the Stage 1.3, a ceramic-coated manifold.
