The Top Safety Pick Plus award has been giving to the Facelifted version of Mercedes-Benz E-Class which has been recently tested by IIHS.
You may not call it the brand new model as it has been Facelifted, but still there is no doubt that the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class dominates the segment. Other key players of this class are the Audi A6 and BMW 5-Series. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has recently crash tested it and the E-Class managed to score a “basic” rating for standard collision prevention assist but for its Pre-Safe Brake system, it scored a “superior” rating. In case of small overlap crash, there are possibilities for some lower leg injuries.
This facelift in comes in on E200 – an entry-level version which produces 181 hp from a Mercedes-Benz 2.0-litre petrol engine – and it was officially unveiled in 2012. Other models receiving this facelift are the E250 – powered by the same engine as before with 208 hp – and the E200 CDI which boasts a four cylinder 2.1-litre engine producing 134 hp.
The E220 CDI with 168 hp, the E250 on the other hand generates 201 hp and the E250 with 3.0-litre V6 engine churns out 248 hp. The top of the line version with extreme facelift is the E63 AMG which is powered by a mighty powerful 5.5-litre V8 engine.
