Vauxhall Adam gets the VXR treatment, but it still needs to be worked hard to perform better
Adam city car has received a turbocharged 1.4 litre Vauxhall engine with a subtle body along with 18” alloy wheels to make it a real Grand Slam. We saw it at the Geneva Motor Show last year and now it has hit the market. It is capable of doing 0-62 miles per hour in just 8.5 seconds and has a top speed of 124 miles per hour. It will be available in UK in March this year from just £17,000.
The new engine offers double power than its previous generation and offers 70 per cent extra torque than a standard naturally aspirated 1.4 litre found in the standard Adam.
Vauxhall has also cut down the weight of the package to squeeze some extra power from the engine. It offers hollow-cast camshafts and a plastic intake manifold with a kerb weight of 1178kg.
Standard Adam was introduced in the Europe in 2013 and it has sold 125,000 units since its introduction in the market. The standard Adam range still tops the Vauxhall sales and it is highly likely that the new Adam Grand Slam will appeal to the customers.
All new Grand Slam will face very high competition when it hits the dealership floor in March. Ford Fiesta is a strong contender in the market with great performance. The actual idea of developing a city car, which is fun to drive and will appeal to many customers and fans of Adam.
